Chelmund’s Cross to Start on Site

Work is soon to start on a new retail and office development at Chelmund’s Cross Village Centre in Chelmsley Wood.

LSP Developments have worked with Solihull Council and the North Solihull Partnership (NSP), alongside Central England Co-operative to create a new food store, Co-operative Funeral Care service, office space for Council staff, a car park for shoppers and visitors to the Village Centre and other improvements to public areas.

Wildgoose Construction Ltd will start on site on 18 April and work is expected to be completed by March next year. The news follows a recent announcement by the Council and NSP that Runwood Homes will build and operate a new 60 bed care home at the village centre for people with dementia.

Both projects mark the final phases in the development of Chelmund’s Cross Village Centre - the largest of the new North Solihull village centres being created. A total of almost £22m has been invested so far. Part funded by the European Regional Development Fund, the village centre includes the £10m Bishop Wilson School, a new Enterprise Centre providing office space for small and new start-up businesses, as well as a new medical centre, dental practice and pharmacy.

Cabinet Member for Managed Growth, Councillor Ian Courts said: “This new retail development and office space will be a really welcome addition to what is already proving to be a vibrant and welcoming village centre, with facilities at the heart of the community where residents wish to work and businesses are keen to locate. I look forward to seeing progress on site as the final phases of this vital community hub come together.
