VIP Visit to Halcyon Centre, Sandwell

A VIP reception was held on 17th October at the award-winning Halcyon Birthing Centre at Sandwell, the guest of honour being the Under Secretary of State for Health, Dr Dan Poulter MP. Dr Poulter was able to meet with midwives, some of the representatives from Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trusts, parents and babies who have experienced births at the centre and Ed Sutton of LSP who developed and owns the facility.
Kathryn Gutteridge, Consultant Midwife, was the inspiration behind the development of the Halcyon and gave her overview as to its success and her intention to get the three birthing suite centre up to 350 per year. On his leaving the facility, Dr Dan Poulter highlighted how impressed he was with the facility, showing how maternity can be dealt with outside of a hospital setting
